Walkersville Band Boosters
General Meeting
February 09, 2006
Band Booster Meeting Minutes
09 February 2006
First up, Mr. F:
Mr. F discussed recruiting efforts, and asked if anyone knows of any 8th graders who may be interested in Band to let him know.
We will have a new Guard Instructor - Mike Zablocki. He is currently TJ guard instructor and we are very fortunate to have him joining Walkersville.
Mr. F is also pursuing Dan DeLong to write the Drum Line music again this year, but there has to be a large enough commitment from students interested in being a part of the Drum Line to make this possible. Again if anyone knows of anyone who may be interested in being a part of the awesome Drum Line, let Mr. F know.
If your student has not brought home a commitment packet yet, they are located in the Band room in the Green bins. Reminder these must be filled out by the end of February.
Fundraisers: Several ideas were discussed including Wolfgang Candy for Easter, Basket Bingo, Bake table for the upcoming elections and the Dance Recital in June. Once the details are in place, I will forward the information to everyone.
Sub sales were slow and discontinued in February due to lack of participation. In order for this to be a success, we need volunteers to make them and students/parents to sell them.
Winter concessions are going well. To date there are 2 scheduled basketball games left so volunteers are needed, and should Walkersville make it to the playoffs there will be more opportunities to help out. This is a very easy and great way to get out, support Walkersville and the band. It is completely LOW stress and a great fundraiser!
Breakfast with the Easter Bunny is Saturday April 8th from 8:00am - 11:00am. We need all the help we can get to make this a successful event. Besides helping that morning, we are asking each of you to donate Easter candy and/or baked goods. You can send the store packaged/individually wrapped Easter candy to school with your student; there will be a place for it in the band room.
Battle of the Bands is scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 2006. It is never too early to start planning this huge event, for now mark the date on your calendars and stay tuned!
Budget: The upcoming year's Budget has been set at $36,300. Major changes included Guard equipment, show creation, marching staff salaries, ACC buses and competition buses. The changes were voted on and approved at this meeting.
The budget may need to be amended for the possibility of Indoor Guard, should there be enough interest. Mr. F will continue to research this possibility and keep us posted.
Next Band Booster Meeting will be Thursday, March 9th at 7:00pm in the Band room. Everyone is welcome, and no one bites! Hope to see ya there.
