 WHS BAND BOOSTERS MEETING

22 January 2009

The January meeting of the WHS Band Boosters was held on Thursday, 22 January, at 7:00 pm in the Band Room. This was rescheduled from Thursday, January 15th as the county had a snow day.

DirectorÕs Roar:  Vivian Laxton gave the DirectorÕs Roar because Ms. Neal was required to be at All County practice.

Vivian reported that Disney practices have started on TuesdayÕs and ThursdayÕs from 4-5:30 pm until the trip. Ms. Neal is aware that students have sports, jobs, etc. and is asking that students see her for schedule conflicts and may adjust the time of practice if needed. She plans on going down to Disney well rehearsed and ready for competition.

She also asked that anyone that has questions about Disney to please write them or e-mail them to her and she will get them to Frank and return the answers to you.

Vivian reported that the efforts in starting a Pep Band were not happening. Many students expressed an interest in starting the band but only 3 students showed to last MondayÕs practice.  Ms. Neal has made the coaches and administration aware that it will not happen this year but she is willing to try again at a later time. Her request is that the student needs to be committed and it must not conflict with grades or studies.

Vivian also reported that the Concert Band date has changed to May 26th, the day after Memorial Day. The Choir Concert is May 22nd, at 7 pm.

AdministrationÕs Report:  Assistant Principle, Mr. Mark Smith was not able to attend our meeting.  There was no Admin.  Report this month, it was mentioned that the new officers need to include him on our e-mail list so he will continue to be invited to our meetings.

PresidentÕs Report: Vivian Laxton informed us that the school would allow the Booster to set a table up during the Freshman Orientation night, Thursday February 5th to sell our handmade crafts and spirit wear.  Kris Woolley, Stephanie Balzer and Sonia Hernandez will staff the table.

In Ms. NealÕs absence a brief reminder of the Disney trip dates, practices and due dates for the balance of the money were noted.  Also, anyone wanting to know the balance in their studentÕs accounts should e-mail Mark Smith or Lucy Rivera.  $150 is due 1/23/09 and the final payment due on 2/20/09.  We are still in need of someone to drive the equipment truck to Disney.  It was noted that our ÒcartÓ will need a tune-up if we are taking it on the trip. Finally, families going to Disney that have not contacted Frank Leizear from Global Travel and would like to arrange tickets, accommodations or extended their stay should do so as soon as possible. His number is (301)570-0800.

Vivian also told the group that Meda Day agreed to be the Booster Publicity Chairperson and offered to give Meda all the contacts she had to help her in the position.

SecretaryÕs Report:  The minutes from the December meeting were distributed and accepted with no changes.

Breakfast with Santa Betsy asked for ideas and changes for the next breakfast.  It was suggested that we remind the guests that the picture is included in ticket price and that the pictures should be taken first before they eat so we have time to print the photos and get them to our guests before they leave. We seemed to have a large number of photos left behind.  Betsy also asked that in our shopping travels if we come across clearance items for the workshop to please pick them up. We are finding that the company we use for the workshop is getting very expensive.
